Peaceful Utopia
Utopia is a continent that—as the name implies—does not exist. Yet, finding Utopia would be worthwhile.
The continent comprises several dozen countries where border disputes and local conflicts frequently erupt due to the uneven distribution of natural resources.
Recent global conflicts have demonstrated that wars can now only be won with the right drone technology.
Every country has calculated the number of killer and interceptor drones required to avoid conquest.
They realized that this would trigger an arms race, as each nation—for the sake of its own security—would need more drones than its aggressive neighbors. If the Gross National Product is consumed by the production of killer and interceptor drones, no funds remain for education and progress.
Peace and progress cannot be achieved through killer robots.
Following the model of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the governments of Utopia have overwhelmingly outlawed the use of killer drones. A few recalcitrant nations subsequently faced difficulties involving high tariffs and were shunned by tourists; boycotts proved effective.There is a historical parallel that offers hope. Slavery was an economic model long viewed as a historical legacy and left unquestioned for ages. Eventually, humanity gradually realized that slavery was incompatible with the dignity to which we aspire. A similar shift is now occurring regarding the deployment of autonomous killer drones—machines capable of independently deciding where and whom to kill. One hopes that, in this instance too, humanity will come to find it incompatible with its dignity to have killer robots deciding matters of life and death.Utopia has chosen the right path.
To address potential border disputes, some countries have begun deploying swarms of small FPV drones along their borders. In the event of war, these drones can detect any enemy activity in the frontline area; depending on the nature of the threat, they self-organize, formulate plans, and present them to the sector commander for a decision.The commander decides on the actions taken by the FPV combat drones.Five countries initially formed a military alliance, with each partner making one-quarter of its FPV drones available to the others on demand. If a country comes under attack, it immediately receives a quarter of the FPV drones from each of the four other allies, thereby doubling its drone defense capabilities. Many other countries have since joined this „insurance alliance.“ Consequently, any member country can now expect to multiply its drone defense capacity in the event of war. Furthermore, production costs have dropped significantly due to the large scale of manufacturing. Production takes place across all member countries, ensuring that everyone benefits from the associated research and development.
Peace reigns in Utopia.
